Dream Variations

A short exhibition film for Murray Art Museum Albury introducing Dream Variations, curated by Kelly Dezart-Smith. Inspired by Langston Hughes’s 1926 poem of the same name, the exhibition explores bla(c)k creativity, freedom and self-determination through works from MAMA’s collection and contemporary artistic practice. Zero Saints shaped the film’s art direction, filming and edit, weaving together conversations with the curator and artists, exhibition footage and details of the artworks. The film also features Green Pastures (2023), directed and edited by Olivia Oluwayemi Suleimon, which shares the story and artistic practice of Naomi Impa Musemu. Artists from MAMA’s collection featured in the exhibition include Allan Chawner, Brook Andrew, Cherine Fahd, Destiny Deacon, Russell Drysdale, Tracey Moffatt, Tommy McRae and Viva Jillian Gibb. The exhibition also presents work by Phil Murray.
